The benefits of pleated mosquito screens

As we have already pointed out, mosquito screens should be chosen with great care, taking into account the specific needs they are designed to meet.

Among the models most commonly used by individuals and businesses are certainly spring- or chain-operated roll-up screens, available in brush-strip or wind-resistant versions. But these are not the only options on the market; pleated mosquito screens are also widely used.

Features of pleated mosquito screens

What are the features of pleated mosquito screens? First, let’s clarify something that this type of mosquito screen lacks: the box that usually houses the mesh. This model folds accordion-style inside a “U”-shaped profile.

In addition to this feature, the pleated mosquito screen stands out for the absence of a bottom rail.

These models feature only a PVC side profile, just a few millimeters high, which is attached with double-sided tape so as not to obstruct passage.

The PVC profile is an important feature because it can be perforated to prevent the accumulation of rainwater, thereby avoiding potential damage to the home or office.

The benefits of a roller screen

The pleated mosquito screen features a friction mechanism without a return spring. This allows it to be locked in any position.

The fact that the screen has a pull-cord mechanism is a very useful feature.

In spring-loaded mosquito screens, which feature a housing and a return spring, the screen can be set to “open only” or “closed only.” In contrast, this model can be locked in any position.

It is convenient in high-traffic areas to leave enough space open for people to pass through and then close it again without any effort on the part of users.

With spring-loaded mosquito screens, the “fully closed” configuration requires the user to open and close the screen with greater effort each time it is used, as they must overcome the resistance of the spring.

When are pleated mosquito screens recommended?

Pleated mosquito screens are recommended for installation near doors that see frequent use, such as large openings with four panels.

Minimal space requirements are also very important because this type of screen can be installed in spaces as narrow as 20 mm.

It is particularly suitable when the space between the window and the roller shade is very narrow or when there are window grilles. In all these cases, the pleated model helps meet our needs.

It’s also important not to overlook the requirements associated with large sizes: for pleated mosquito screens, widths range from 250 cm for the single-panel version to 480 cm for the double-panel version.

When comparing this to other solutions, it is important to note that the size of traditional spring-loaded mosquito screens is limited by the size of the roller tube: a single-panel side model can hold up to 160 cm of mesh within a 5 cm space. In contrast, a pleated mosquito screen can easily cover an opening up to 250 cm wide.
